It all started in the year 2001. A bunch of us, some fresh from IITs and some working for the big guys, wanted to stitch technology and social change together.
How could we possibly do this successfully? Two things emerged. First, we had exceptional IT skills at hand and venturing out in a business made perfect sense. Second, being fans of the Art of Living movement only made it better.
They tackle the most pressing issues of the humanity, attend to them with great poise and design workable solutions for them, all to create ripples of happiness in the world.
By the year 2001, The Art Of Living had touched over a million people from 150 different countries through their several projects.
Our 'Why' became clear. Do exceptional work, make profits, fund the social projects run by Art of Living. We were infused with commitment, vision and a drive to excel. We plunged right in. We called ourselves "Sumeru".
Back then we were just a software making firm. Compact. Maybe 3–4 of us. People loved what we made and it felt great to see them smile with the work we did for them. Business was doing good and everyone was happy.
Slowly we started getting requests for different kinds of assignments than just pure software. We had the necessary talents at our doorstep and the kind of work being offered was meaningful and stimulating to our brain cells!
We soon branched out into providing information security and banking & finance services for our customers. Lately we have also started making apps and service suites for political parties, sales stalwarts and retail stores.
The existential objective of Sumeru connects each one of us strongly and pushes us to do the best work of our careers. Everyday. Joyfully. No wonder why most of us who work at Sumeru, stay at Sumeru.
Sumeru has an interesting potpourri of talented people. We're programmers, engineers, marketers, writers, musicians, meditators, skaters, dancers, teachers, volunteers, testers, bikers, trekkers, gardeners and change makers here. This soulful variety brings a unique perspective to things we do. Would you like to work with us? Let us know.
